With less than two weeks to go before I leave for England, I've started "practice packing". I am posting my itinerary for the four week visit. I will have the opportunity to visit a variety of health care settings, speak with various players within the health system and attend a National Primary Care Conference. This visit will no doubt provide me with practical knowledge and experience that will be instrumental in implementing a similar primary care system in our Health Region and on a provincial level. I promise to post frequent updates on this site throughout the four weeks.

I had the opportunity to meet with our local Regional Health Authority again last week regarding follow-up to the Diabetes Proposal. Issues concerning human resources, alternative avenues of funding, and working relationships with the Regional Diabetes Program were discussed, and the necessary additions/changes to the proposal were noted.
We have a 4th year pharmacy student spending her "specialty" clinical rotation with us. She has had the opportunity to work on several different projects, the largest being a case report regarding hypokalemia in patients on potassium-sparing diuretic therapy. She has also put together the community education portion of the proposed Diabetes Clinic. We have been extremely impressed with her level of knowledge and quality of work, and know that she will do well on the upcoming National Board Exams.
