Primary Care Posts by Charity Evans, 2004 - 2005

October is proving to be conference month. I attended the three day Health Quality Council's QI-Nexus conference October 18-20th. Focusing on managing change and quality improvement, the conference was attended by a wide range of health care professionals and managers.
The three day conference, presented by member of the UK's National Primary Care Development Team (NPDT) was intensive, but provided many of us with a different way to approach quality improvement.
Topics over the three days included:
-Model for Improvement
-Defining the Problem
-PDSA Cycles
-Process Mapping
-Introduction to Measurement for Improvement
-Introduction to Variation
-Change Management
-Learning Styles
-Engaging Clinicians
-What is a Collaborative?
-How to Run a Collaborative
-Large Scale Spread
For detailed information, and presentation handouts on these topics, go to the HQC website.

The Pharmacy Post asked me to write an article describing my visit to the UK, and what ideas I brought back with me. The article can be found by clicking here.

I've returned from my two-week "vacation" during which time I got married. The last few days have been spent unpacking, doing laundry, and answering the numerous emails that build up over two weeks.
October is an extremely hectic month filled with a variety of conferences. As described in an earlier blog, I'll be attending a couple of Health Quality Council conferences. I then head to Regina for the two-day conclusion to the Saskatchewan Institute of Health Leadership (SIHL) program I participated in.
This University of Regina Continuing Education program had 32 participants, and focused on the development of the leadership skills for those in the healthcare field. Both individual and group projects were required, as well as several distance learning opportunities. Besides leadership skills development, I was able to network with professionals from various aspects of healthcare -- many of whom I have built excellent working relationships with.
The SIHL has created their 2005 program, with information available at the above link.
