I apologize for neglecting my blog. I will try to update it at least monthly from now on. Here is an overview of what I have been working on this fall:

September
October

  • Submitted a proposal to Cypress Health Region to contract my services half time as a pharmacist based out of Leader Medical Centre
  • Developed a spreadsheet for tracking use of anti-nauseants and anti-diarrheals in the hopes of early detection of a GI illness outbreak
  • Attended P.A.C.T. & Q.U.I.T. workshop in Prince Albert to become certified in assisting patients to quit smoking
November

  • Attended an Inter-professional Geriatrics Conference in Regina
In addition I have been spending 2 or 3 afternoons each week at the medical centre doing chart reviews and consulting to the physicians and nurse practitioner. On Wednesday afternoons I attend rounds at Western Seniors Care Home with the physicians and WSCH nurse.
I recently started a pharmacy newsletter that is provided to the physicians and nurse practitioner to keep them up to date regarding new medications, etc. The first issue discussed Exubera (an inhaled insulin) and I am currently working on a Geriatric Care Summary based on information I gathered at the recent conference in Regina.
