It's been a busy 4 months. We had four 4th year pharmacy students here for 5 weeks each. Between working 3 days a week at Stueck Pharmacy and 2 days a week in the Leader and Maple Creek clinics (plus lots of meetings and conferences), I have been running like crazy and haven't had a chance to update the website. I will start putting the students' project under the download section and try to describe what I have been working on.
In January I started a 10 week smoking cessation program called PACT (Partnership to Assist with the Cessation of Tobacco). 15 participants were in attendance. Everyone did very well and 5 people were able to quit completely and stay quit for alteast 2 months. Congratulations to all. Another PACT group will be held in late fall.
March 6 & 7 Stueck Pharmacy hosted a community health fair. Boothes included: dietician, heart & stroke foundation, public health nurse, smoking cessation, BMI assessment, sleep apnea screening, diabetes association, self-screening for breast and testicular cancers, talking diabetes and blood pressure monitors, retina scan and bone density scan. The fair was very successful with more than 50 people attending each day.
April 20-23 Stueck Pharmacy sponsored a UV damage screening clinic at the four area schools (Leader, Eatonia, Burstall, and Fox Valley). Grade 7-12 students were invited to participate; they were given a presentation about sun safety and then a special photo was taken to visualize sun damage beneath the top layer of skin. Over 140 students and teachers were screened.
May 1-3 Gordon and I attended the annual Pharmacists' Association of Saskatchewan conference in Saskatoon. I was asked to speak on two topics; my group PACT sessions and INR testing. I also received an award of merit for promoting the practice of pharmacy.
